PURSUE Release 03: 72 Unresolved UAP Files (12 Jun 2026)

OFFICIAL FILES · Released 12 Jun 2026. These are U.S. government records published at war.gov/ufo. Incident years: 1949 to 2026. Redacted Weekly archives them as public-domain government works.

On 12 Jun 2026, the Department of War posted Release 03 of the Presidential Unsealing and Reporting System for UAP Encounters (PURSUE) at https://www.war.gov/ufo/. The release page lists 72 records: 53 PDF, 10 IMG, 6 VID, 3 AUD (PDF = document, VID = video, IMG = image, AUD = audio). The bulk downloads offered on the page were documents (826 MB) and videos (4.6 GB).

What PURSUE says these are: the program page says “The materials archived here are unresolved cases, meaning the government is unable to make a definitive determination on the nature of the observed phenomena. This can occur for a variety of reasons, including a lack of sufficient data.” So no record in this release is an official finding of anything extraordinary. The government simply could not explain them with the data it had.

Who supplied the files: FBI (29), CIA (18), Department of War (12), NASA (11), Intelligence Community Agency (1), U.S. Government (1).

Where they happened: the most common listed locations are Western United States (12), Northeastern United States (11), Westen United States (7), Colorado Springs, Colorado, U.S. (4), Cape Kennedy, Florida (3), Budapest, Hungary (2).

Highlights picked by the Department of War

The database marks some records as “Featured.” Where fewer than three are flagged, we added the earliest incident, a video and a non-DoW record. Here are up to four from this release, with the official description quoted rather than paraphrased:

FBI-UAP-D011, D/FBI Correspondence Referral, 1949

Incident: 1949, n/a · FBI

Official description (quoted from the PURSUE database): “This collection of documents contains correspondence between the Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), J. Edgar Hoover, and Rev. Charles Barnes concerning Barnes’ account of an incident potentially involving unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP).”

FBI-UAP-PR001, “Triangle Orbs,” Northeastern United States, 2021

Incident: November, 2021, Northeastern United States · FBI

Official description (quoted from the PURSUE database): “In November 2021, at approximately 0500 local time in the northeastern United States, an eyewitness observed a bright light source near the horizon at an estimated distance of 2,000 feet. The light source initially appeared as a single intense luminous object before resolving into multiple lights exhibiting erratic rotational motion relative to one another. The object slowly moved laterally from left to right during the encounter.”

CIA-UAP-002, Scientific Advisory Panel on Unidentified Flying Objects, Report, 1952-1953

Incident: 1952-1953, n/a · CIA

Official description (quoted from the PURSUE database): “This file contains correspondence and reports dated 1952–1953 from the Scientific Advisory Panel on Unidentified Flying Objects, convened by the CIA’s Office of Scientific Intelligence. The panel’s primary conclusion was that “flying saucers” did not pose a direct physical threat to the national security of the United States. The panel found no evidence that these phenomena were attributable to hostile foreign artifacts or indicated a need to revise existing scientific concepts.”

CIA-UAP-003, The Central Intelligence Agency and Overhead Reconnaissance; The U-2 and OXCART Programs, 1954-1974

Incident: 1954-1974, n/a · CIA

Official description (quoted from the PURSUE database): “This CIA History Staff document chronicles the complete history of the U-2 and OXCART (A-12) high-altitude reconnaissance aircraft programs from 1954 to 1974, detailing their development, operations over the Soviet Union and other targets worldwide, the famous downing of Francis Gary Powers in 1960, organizational reforms following that incident, and the eventual transfer of operations from CIA to Air Force control. A more redacted version of this document has been available on CIA’s public website.”
