What happened

A beachgoer at Treasure Shores Beach Park called 911 at about 4pm on Thursday 23 July 2026. They reported “a white object fall from the sky into the water, followed by a plume of black smoke.” The Indian River County Sheriff’s Office, the US Coast Guard, Patrick Space Force Base and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission searched about 40 square miles of ocean. Nothing was found. Vero News, in a story by Nick Samuel, and Sebastian Daily, in one by Andy Hodges the next morning, both quote sheriff’s spokesperson Lt. Kevin Jaworski.

The footage

No photo or video of the fall has been published. Vero News runs a photo of Treasure Shores Beach Park by Joshua Kodis, which shows the location, not the object. The entire evidence base is one caller’s account and the negative results of the search.

What witnesses reported

According to Jaworski, the caller said the object “crashed into the ocean about 20 miles offshore,” and also reported “seeing a boat near where the object hit the water.” Sheriff’s marine units spoke with boaters in the area. “None of the boaters reported seeing or hearing anything unusual,” Jaworski said. He added that the caller “did not see the object fall from an aircraft.”

What the research found

The military’s answer was a possibility, not a finding. Jaworski relayed Patrick’s position: “Patrick Space Force Base confirmed it was not conducting military training exercises at the time, but noted military aircraft may have dropped flares into the water in the area.” He went on: “It is unclear whether this was what the caller observed.” Sebastian Daily phrases it as aircraft that “sometimes drop flares into the water in that region.” Neither outlet reports a follow-up statement.
