The claim

A story dated “Houston, TX – November 3, 2026” and bylined to “Jonathan Gregory” said an FBI raid on a Houston storage-locker warehouse “last night” uncovered more than 20,000 fraudulent ballots “all marked in favor of Democratic Candidates.” It came with photos of an FBI truck, a storage building and stacks of ballots. DW reports that one X version passed 400,000 views. This is a text-and-photo post, not a video.

Timeline

  • 2 Nov 2026 (claimed): the night of the supposed raid, per the story’s “last night” and the FBI’s own description of the posts.
  • 2 Nov 2026: separately, the U.S. Supreme Court’s order list denies the federal government’s application in United States v. California (No. 26A624), a fight over California ballots. It’s real election-fraud news from the same week, unrelated to Houston.
  • 3 Nov 2026, 15:37 UTC: an early copy-paste version of the story appears on X.
  • 3 Nov: FBI Houston tells AFP the story is false. PolitiFact rates it Pants on Fire.
  • 4 Nov: AFP, DW, Snopes and Lead Stories publish fact-checks. A quote-post version is still circulating at 13:51 UTC.

What believers claim

On the eve of the midterms, the story offered what looked like hard proof of large-scale Democratic ballot fraud in Texas’s biggest city, with a named reporter, a date line, a specific number and photos. Shared as a screenshot, it looks like a wire report.

What the research found

The FBI says it didn’t happen. FBI Houston gave AFP this statement on 3 Nov: “FBI Houston is aware of social media posts claiming the office conducted an election-related ‘raid’ that ‘uncovered fraudulent ballots’ on November 2, 2026. That information is false and no election-related operation occurred.” Hudspeth, speaking for FBI Houston, told PolitiFact: “The information circulating on social media is false.” PolitiFact’s Madison Czopek rated the claim Pants on Fire.
